Govardhan Puja, the day after Diwali, recalls Krishna lifting Govardhan hill to shelter the people of Braj from Indra's rains. It is also observed as Annakut, an offering of many foods.
Devotees shape a small hill from cow dung or food, worship it and walk around it, and temples offer a large spread of dishes (annakut) to Krishna. In Maharashtra the day is Bali Pratipada or Padwa, and in Gujarat it marks the new year.
